The Heritage Gazetteer of Cyprus is a long‑running scholarly initiative that brings together extensive historical, archaeological, and geographical research on the island of Cyprus. Originating from work at King’s College London on medieval Cypriot monuments and the digital representation of cultural heritage data, the project consolidates dispersed historical information, multilingual place names, and dated attestations to create an authoritative, openly accessible spatial index of Cypriot heritage sites. RSEs from King’s Digital Lab (including developers, analysts) have architected robust data models, implemented workflows for geospatial authentication, and ensured the system’s long‑term maintainability as a research service. Their work enables the integration of complex datasets, supports community contributions, and delivers a scalable, standards‑driven framework that can be extended to other heritage initiatives. In doing so, the project exemplifies how RSE practice enhances humanities research by turning complex, interdisciplinary scholarship into reliable, high‑quality digital infrastructure.
